A FREE Lecture:
Comics: An Art Form in Transition with Scott McCloud
September 14, 2006 at 5:00 pm in E15-070
In the last 20 years, print comics have struggled toward maturity through the literate graphic novel movement. Now, that same art form is experiencing a vastly different set of growing pains on the web, raising fundamental questions about the reading experience, the functions of storytelling in society, how art forms adapt to dominant technologies and the role of space in information design. Cartoonist, teacher and author Scott McCloud explores these and other questions in a fast-moving visual presentation.
Scott McCloud has been writing and drawing independent comic books since 1984. His new book, Making Comics, explores the art and craft of telling stories visually. McCloud's online comics can be found at www.scottmccloud.com.
