Clint Eastwood and Shirley MacLaine develop a wonderful chemistry in this humorous film set in French-occupied Mexico. MacLaine plays Sara, a sexy spy who must disguise herself as a nun in order to obtain the protection and assistance of Eastwood, a mercenary drifter. They squabble as they struggle to deliver vital information to the elusive resistance army and plan a bold assault on the French fort that Sara calls home.

Finn is given one last chance to win Estella, now divorced, at the funeral of his wealthy benefactor (Robert De Niro).

Jackie Brown (Pam Grier) is a flight attendant who uses her job to smuggle cash into the U.S. for international gun dealer Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson). Given the choice between going to prison or helping the authorities catch Ordell, she reluctantly chooses the latter. Jackie then contrives a plan to feign cooperation with both sides and still take the $500,000 reward. With half a million dollars in the air, others in Ordell's gang (Robert De Niro, Bridget Fonda) have hidden agendas as well. Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, and based on Elmore Leonard's 1995 novel Rum Punch.

The Readings in Science Fiction series concludes with a presentation by J. Michael Straczynski (creator of the award-winning Babylon 5) and Alexander Jablokov (author of River of Dust). Also sponsored by the Media in Transition project and the Department of Writing and Humanistic Studies. This lecture is free and open to the public.
