Get Shorty (1995)

Low-level Miami loan shark and film buff Chili Palmer (John Travolta) heads to Hollywood via Las Vegas looking for grade-Z movie producer Harry Zim (Gene Hackman) who owes Vegas $150,000. Instead of putting the squeeze on Zom, Chili pitches his own story concept. While trying to casually break into showbiz, Palmer is pitted against a variey of shady Hollywood types, including egomaniacal superstar Martin Weir (Danny DeVito), but Palmer finds help from Weir's ex, B-movie scream queen Karen Flores (Rene Russo).
