The life of the fisherman Mario changes dramatically when the famous
Chilean writer Pablo Neruda settles on his little Italian island.
Living in exile because of his political beliefs, Neruda needs a
postman to deliver the huge quantities of mail sent to him by his
admirers and Mario takes the job since fishing never appealed much.
The two become friends and Neruda helps the shy and clumsy Mario to
win the heart of Beatrice, the beautiful waitress at the village's
inn.

This spoof of '70s disaster movies is the source of many of the
recurring jokes in modern slapstick comedies. One of the earliest
works of Zucker & Zucker, it is the grandfather of such movies as Top
Secret, The Naked Gun, and Hot Shots. Ted Striker (Robert Hays) is a
washed-up ex-pilot who must save the day when food poisoning strikes
the crew of an airliner en route to Chicago.
